LIKE THE STARS

A starry sky,

On this wintry night,

Who shines the brightest, I guess they fight.

As alone I sit in the balcony—

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS lying side by.

A mournful symphony,

Or so is it just in my mind.

 

Holding the fresh brewed hot coffee,

For at this hour, I prefer it more than the tea.

It’s probably cold by now,

Coz I don’t find the hot vapours

Coming out of the cup any how.

I place it lightly on the table,

Carefully, but with a little tremble.

I get up, but my legs feel so feeble.

 

In a short while,

I manage to reach the railings.

My hands fall on my ears absentmindedly.

And I am able to feel his gifted earrings.

I look up,

For down, it’s just darkness and fear

And I’d prefer a little light

To let my gloomy mind feel a bit of cheer.

I behold the stars again;

Wondering when was it that their shimmering began.

I hear my mom’s voice ring in my ear:

“Forever is an illusion, dear,

It’s a word, just mere.”

Premonitions fill my mind.

Anyone so perfect, will I ever find?

 

That sad song,

So familiar and yet,

I cannot identify it.

Or may be it’s my mind gone all wrong.

It plays again.

Now and then it stops again.

Only to resume again.

And when it did stop,

It’s silence pin drop.

I realize it was my favourite country song

Whose lyrics I’ve remembered for so long—-

You see the stars?

Through ages and wars,

Like them, your love will shine.

For even when he will depart,

And you both are miles apart,

No matter how dim,

Your rays will reach out to him,

Calling out “You’re mine.”

P.S. With this post, I’d take a little break from blogging for the next few weeks since I have my final exams coming up right away. Thanks to all my blogger friends who’ve poured in so much of love and encouragement which has just inspired me to a whole new level. I never thought I’d be writing instant poems with just one word prompt, had it not been you all’s inspirations. I can’t thank you enough. I’m just grateful to have met such lovely people like you. And by the time I return with my next post, keep writing for your writing is what inspires me to write more and more. I’d catch up with all your posts once my exams are over, for I’d love to.
