FADED WISHES— A POEM ABOUT LOST LOVE

And from where I sit in my balcony,

I see him standing across the lane,

Making a conversation with Bethany,

And upon my lips, a smile came;

For she’s just a friend,

And I am?

His bestfriend.  His girlfriend.

Sometime later,

I see her leave,

I do let out a silent heave

For I know she’s better than I can ever be.

And yet,

I find him approaching towards our porch,

In no time I am running down the stairs,

At the speed of rocket launch.

The bell sounds, the door I let open,

And the adrenaline rush makes me go inane.

By the door he leans,

I see my prince charming in him,

Wearing those faded blue jeans,

Making me ponder—am I really HIS?

We leave for a walk by the river

Coz I’ve heard him say to many other—

It’s my favorite place to be with her.

So with the wind against our face,

Our fingers intertwined like knotted shoe lace,

His thumb brushed against knuckles of mine,

And I knew it right then,

He’ll always make me feel this fine,

He’ll forever and always be mine.

For the future we plan for us together,

Holding on to each other forever,

Realizing how perfect we are for each other.

Suddenly he lets go of my hand,

And I see him removing the LOVE Band,

I panic and ask him why?

Trust me, YOU don’t wanna see me die!

And then he starts to run.

I try, I follow, I run.

But it’s no longer our childhood’s Hop and Catch fun.

As he moved further away,

I see him waning away.

I scream out his name

And I realize it’s all in vain.

For I find myself

Holding on to my teddy,

Which on my 12th birthday,

He gifted to me himself.

I let out a sigh,

And then I hug my teddy again, bursting out into a cry.

For I couldn’t let go of my Imagination,

Craving for his touch, a temptation;

I cry louder in frustration,

But now it’s all a devastation

Coz his death was an end to my own creation.

~~~~~~  MANIDIPA
My take on today’s daily prompt word: Imagination. I know it might sound cliché and all. But I’d love to believe in the power of imagination which lets us live in a world which can’t be ours. May be it once used to be, but not any more.
Also I owe my inspiration to the numerous love songs I started listening to at the age of 13(well particularly TAYLOR SWIFT and JUSTIN BIEBER). U might be able to relate the first part of this poem as a picture from SWIFT’s “YOU BELONG WITH ME”. Also my inspiration comes from Shawn Mendes’s IMAGINATION song and last but not the least my fellow bloggers who write such beautiful poems and have encouraged me to keep on writing with my individuality intact. So a big thanx to all of you.
Do leave a feedback on what you feel about this poem.
FEATURE IMAGE: Errrr… credits to my hand and my neighbor’s garden. LOL!
    1. Thanks a lot for taking your time to read my poem. It means a lot. I really admire your work. And you are an inspiration, like many other of my fellow bloggers are. Thank u again for encouraging me. 🙂 🙂
  1. Reading through the comments I hardly have a word to add edgewise. Otherwise, from a personal point of view, I have loved love from a young age. Love is the most beautiful emotion and sometimes best premise for the most beautiful poems, such as FADED WISHES. As a cynic now, even though I’ve found my Twin Flame, love as what it implies is still cherished, and that’s why the ending to your poem dredges up long lost emotions. 🙂 cherish your imagination and make it blossom and bloom for the world to experience and acknowledge!!! 😀
    1. This makes my day, Gawie(I assume that’s your name or is it just a blog name?). 🙂 🙂 😊😊😊😊😊😊 Yeah love is a feeling to be cheerishes, to be lived for and to revel in. For something Robert Frost said about love and I firmly believe in “Love is an irresistible desire to be desired irresistibly”
      Thanks for reading it. Well may be a thanks is just not enough for the message you left. It just lift my mood up. Many thanks. Let’s be in love and cherish it! ❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️
  2. I love this! I think most of girls have experienced this before, if not… count yourself lucky.
    Listening and singing along to Taylor Swifts songs at the age of 15 despite not knowing much about love… oh, those were the days.
    1. Yes I know that feeling…..being in Love and Swift’s songs to make u feel in love….that teenage feeling of being deeply, badly, and madly in love(well I’m still a teen, just 18…ha ha!!!)
      And thank u for taking out your time and reading it. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
      2. Optimism drives me…no matter how gloomy situations are, losing optimism would mean losing your hopes for something better and that’s my driving force. Well, no one should ever lose hope. 🙂 🙂 🙂 And it was my pleasure. 🙂 🙂 🙂
      1. The thing is…just after I wrote the comment, I checked this link out(before u wrote it in the comment) and found out your name. So once again Hi Jannat. 🙂 🙂 Oh and best wishes for your SAT. U’ve opted for the essay and the subject tests? Ok we twin on a lot of points: I like to carefree and independent. I’d probably be bragging but I prefer to work hard as well and happen to be a “GOOD STUDENT”. And I too have wishes of living in the stone houses…kinda that old age feeling, u knw? Castles and houses, roads and pavements…of cobblestones and others? 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
        That is so strange that our thoughts are so similar. Are you a taurus? 😀 I laaave stone houses, I don’t why and how I started liking them but there’s something peaceful and attractive about ’em. Yes I gave SAT with essay. It’s a difficult task, you know the preps n all.. 😢
        Lovely meeting you.! 😍💖
      3. Though I wouldn’t be sitting for it, I was going through the SAT syllabus and papers. Yeah, like the sites said, SAT did require a lotta prepration. So best of luck with that. 🙂 🙂
        I think my love for the stone houses arose from one of the English novels(can’t make sure which one in particular)…that’s probably the most plausible reason. 🙂
        It’s wonderful to meet someone who is at some other corner of the world and yet so very like yourself. 🙂 🙂
        Oh and btw, I am Libra. Although if I go by the Bengali Rashi(rashi would mean Zodiac sign), I am SINGHO RASHI(i.e. Leo)
        And as for the for stone houses, I started liking ’em after I saw a turkish drama…I know it’s bit cheesy but..😄😉😋
        Good to meet you.!
        Looking forward to explore more about you through your blog.
        I think I’d take a little inspiration from you and write a post on BEING CHEESY someday(date, time, month, year uncertain…thanx to my Physics for making me go insane and write with such absurdity! Lol!)
        And yes I promise to do a top to bottom spy, speculate, stalk (any other words to add? Tell me, you’re in SAT preparation, your vocabulary’s definitely far better than the famished one of mine), etc etc etc of your blog once I get rid of my LOVER(Exam? Lover? really???? Ewww!!!!😃😃😃😃😃)
      11. I had a little of gyan sona from my daddy today in the car….after coming out of the exam hall. I have IIT as my most-important(read as only) choice. Private is like a NO NO for him. Firstly there aren’t any super-bumper private colleges in Bengal and my dad won’t send me outside Bengal. And the cost is definitely the other factor.
        You’ve opted for Online JEE I suppose. For I have mine on 8th.
      12. Yup, online it is. But I have no idea even about the pattern of the thing. I am cutting a sorry figure one after the other in boards…. Let alone JEE. Even my father has a problem with private… That’s why DU. He so wanted me to go to Jadavpur (he’s from there) but I staunchly put down my foot for I am not keen on staying in Kolkata (No offence). So you’re aiming for Kharagpur then, I assume. I’m sure you’ll get it.
        Likewise, even my dad has issues sending me away from Delhi. Bengali parents are overprotective!!
I do love the city. Absolutely love it for a retreat. But you know, having stayed in Delhi my whole life, I find Kolkata a bit too slow for my taste. You know, everything is relaxes (which is most of the times a good thing).
        I don’t know if you’ve ever visited Delhi… Unfortunately, I don’t think I can say that you’ll love it.. it can get toooooo boisterous sometimes….
      1. Actually most of the bloggers are elder to me, So If it’s a foreigner I would say Sir/Mam. If from our country I would say ji for most efficient writters. And Bhai, yaar, di itna toh chalta hei. Because from the beginning many of them have supported me by helping me grow and it was like a family. A WordPress family. But nowadays most of them are so busy may be with their lives
      2. I am not sure if u r older or younger than me, but you may call me Moni.
        And yes ofc, WordPress is like a family now for me as well….just around 2 months into it and I have already found myself accepted as a member here.☺☺☺☺
      3. If you are 19, 20 or upto 22 I can say Yaar if it sounds good.. as a gap of 3 to 4 years doesn’t matter. But if your writings are so professional I would probably have to put “ji” as a little more respect
    1. It’s alright Nandita.😘 I just wish for the best for you. And for all your haters, let them be the way they are. If someone is so good at something the only reason they shower their hatred is jealousy. Never let them rule you. Just keep being the amazing person you are. And as long as I get to read your posts, I’m satisfied.☺☺☺☺
      Loads of love, Nandita.😘
  5. Loved this poem. Keep writing more of them. When I read that first part, he talking to someone else, I thought maybe the poem would end on a depressed note, about betrayals, about unrequited love, broken hearts….and what not!!!??? Though it’s not a happy ending and is in a way about broken hearts but not the way I had thought. Love your creativity, and thumbs up to your imagination!! I read some of your posts and I just loved all of them. 🙂
    1. You are so good with the analysing. You know what? I actually thought about writing it as a betrayal poem. The first part might be an indication. But then I went with the flow and let death take the role in this poem!
